Doomsday Prophecies or Too Much Caffeine?

Posted in Uncategorized by acidsquid on February 27, 2010

Ask yourself, how could such a sophisticated people be wrong?  Truth be told, they won’t be.  Over the past decade we have experienced and witnessed complete devistation due to natural and human caused disaster.  I’m no conspiracy theorist, nor am I some dooms-dayer, but jesus christ this is getting out of hand.  Earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, flooding, etc…is this spring training for 2012?  Well, I am starting to think so.  We are bearing witness to social structures completely collapsing around us due to horrific acts of nature.

Sure the Mayans did some pretty ill shit in their day, but its really not to far off from some of the shit that goes on in certain areas of the world today, its just that CNN doesn’t cover it.

I don’t know about you people, but we are talking about  one of the most advanced cultures of people in human history, and I will take heade to their warning.  Because, to be honest, I hate suprises.  I hate to be a negative Nancy but I am pretty sure the events of the past few years are simply little slaps on the wrist compared to whats to come.  I know, I know, “Squiddy, your giving us that crazy talk”.  Who knows, maybe I am, but don’t act like its not possible.  Maybe “the world won’t end”, but this wouldn’t be the first time it fell in on itself.  If you disagree with me, you were more than likely educated in a cave by a pack of badgers.  Or maybe I have had way too much caffeine this morning, or maybe it was the 8.8 magnitude earthquake THAT FUCKING HIT THIS MORNING.

Fuck it, I’m heading for the mountains with a backpack full of mushrooms, my Kyuss and Mono records, and as much clean underwear as possible.  See you on the other side.

“Get busy living, or get busy dying…that’s god damn right.”

BSA Carrier Bicycles 1939

Posted in Uncategorized by acidsquid on February 26, 2010

The Birmingham Small Arms Company a.k.a BSA was also in the business of manufacturing bicycles.  The company was founded in 1861 by a group of gunsmiths in Birmingham, England.  The now defunct company began manufacturing bicycles in the 1880’s when the sale of guns declined.  The BSA bicycle division was later sold to Raleigh Industries in 1957.

Did he say Fuz-E built wheels, yes…he did!

Tony Fast’s plug for Bicycle Revolutions in Philadelphia.  If you are in Philadelphia, BR is the only shop you need to stop by.  And, if you are looking to get wheels built, go no further.

New Tokyo Decadence: The Slave

Posted in Uncategorized by acidsquid on February 21, 2010

Above is a still from one of my favorite Japanese films, New Tokyo Decadence: The Slave which was directed by Osamu Sato.  If you are into this type of thing, this movie is amazing.  It was released by one of my favorite studios Pink Eiga  (which translates appropriately to Pink Film).  If you have ever seen the movie The Secretary with James Spader, well trust me when I tell you it doesn’t hold a candle to this film.  This is the ultimate in “secretary” films.

Left Out In the Snow

Posted in Uncategorized by acidsquid on February 15, 2010

After we got clobbered by two of the biggest snowstorms in Philadelphia history in less than a weeks time, I have been doing a lot of commuting by foot.  I prefer to ride my bicycle regardless of the temperature, but the amount of ice coating our city’s streets has made this much less of an option.  In my travels around over the past week, I have noticed a sad amount of bicycles that have been left out in the snow, getting covered with the drifts from the plows, some of them you can’t even see other than their seat posts poking up out of the filthy snow piles.  This drives me completely nuts, because there are three gorgeous bikes within two blocks of my apartment which have been- for the lack of a better word- abandoned.  These bikes, for the most part, are in excellent condition, but not for long as they sit outside marinating in the the winter mix of snow and salt.  I feel like there should be some sort of SPCA type of organization that rescues bikes from neglectful owners, and allows less fortunate people to adopt them.

Another great vintage photo of a “real woman”, no photoshop bullshit, no silly sets and backgrounds.  Just simple and sexy.
